Ceiling fans: your questions, our answers
Choosing your ceiling fan
Which diameter for which room size?
The bigger the room, the larger the diameter should be. Allow 107 cm for up to 15 m², 132 cm for up to 30 m², and 152 cm for up to 40 m². If in doubt, we can advise you by email. The recommended room size is listed on every model in the collection.
What is the minimum ceiling height?
Allow at least 2.3 m of ceiling height. Ideally, the blades should sit about 2.1 m above the floor for safe, effective air movement. For high ceilings, an extension rod brings the ceiling fan down to the right height.
With or without a light: how do I choose?
If the room already has a ceiling light, a model without a light is enough and stays more discreet. If that central point is your main light source, choose a model with a built-in LED light to cool and light the room in one go. Both of our ranges are here.
Timber or synthetic blades, what's the difference?
Solid timber blades give a warm, premium finish, perfect for a living room or a bedroom. Technical blades (ABS) are lighter, easy to clean and cope better with humidity. The choice mostly comes down to the style you are after.
Can I install it in a sunroom or on a covered patio?
Yes, provided you choose a model designed for sheltered spaces (IP44 rating minimum). Avoid outdoor areas fully exposed to rain.
Performance and quiet
Does a ceiling fan really replace air conditioning?
It doesn't chill the air like an air conditioner, but the air movement makes the room feel 3 to 4 °C cooler, for a fraction of the running cost. In the vast majority of cases, that is more than enough, and far more economical.
Is it really quiet?
Yes. Our models use latest-generation DC motors, around 22 dB in everyday use, which is quieter than a hushed conversation. You forget it very quickly, even in a bedroom. Measured at 1.5 m, speed 3 of 6, ±2 dB tolerance depending on the environment.
Why keep it running in winter?
Reverse mode pushes the warm air trapped at the ceiling back down. You heat less for the same comfort.
How much power does a Oreila ceiling fan use?
Very little: around 18 to 30 W depending on the model and speed, about the same as an LED bulb. Over a season, it adds a few dollars to your bill, compared with several hundred for air conditioning.
Delivery and installation
What are the delivery times?
Allow 7 to 14 business days across Australia, with free delivery. You receive a tracking link as soon as your order ships.
Is installation complicated?
No. Allow about an hour on an existing ceiling light fitting. The mounting bracket is included, the instructions are illustrated step by step, and an installation video walks you through every move. Depending on your ceiling, plasterboard, concrete or timber beam, the fixing varies slightly: it's all covered in our installation guide.
Is the remote control included?
Yes, the remote control is included with most of our models: speed, direction and, depending on the model, light settings. It's listed on every product page.
Does it fit onto an existing ceiling light?
Yes. The connection is the same as a standard ceiling light: a bracket and three wires. The illustrated instructions and the installation video cover every step.
Does it need building work or strata approval?
No, and that's exactly what makes installation so simple. No drilling through walls, no outdoor unit on the facade, no permission to ask for, even in an apartment. About an hour, and the illustrated instructions cover every step.

Do you offer trade terms?
Yes. Architects, hoteliers, installers or resellers: head to our Trade & Projects page for volume pricing and dedicated support.
Why a DC motor?
It uses two to three times less power than a conventional motor and doesn't heat up. Above all, it turns slowly while moving just as much air, and that is where the quiet comes from.
Can I leave it running overnight?
Yes. The timer switches it off by itself after the delay you choose: you fall asleep with it on, and you don't get up to turn it off.
Are the settings remembered?
On most of our models, the speed and light colour stay in memory when you switch off at the wall. If in doubt about a specific model, write to us and we'll check with you.
